Discover the extraordinary Bronze Statue of the Medici Venus, a work of art that embodies the perfection of female beauty in ancient Rome. The original work, exhibited at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, dates back tothe late Hellenistic period (end of the 1st century BC).

The statue portraysVenus who was suddenly caught during a bath. Venus, known in Greek mythology as Aphrodite, is represented in the characteristic "Venus Pudica" style. In this depiction, the goddess is portrayed as she instinctively attempts to cover her breasts and pubis, as if she has just sensed that she is being watched by an indiscreet gaze.

The goddess shows sweet gestures, her soft forms perfectly portray the canons of beauty of the time in which the sculpture was sculpted.

Historical Curiosities

The dolphin on which the left leg of the goddess rests and the three cupids help to mythologically place the subject of the sculpture, which can undoubtedly be recognized as Aphrodite.

The Greeks associated the name of Aphrodite with the sea foam (afròs), from which they believed she was born; her cult spread in the West, first in Erice in Sicily and then in Rome, the goddess was honored with the name of Venus from the Latin Venus, which means beauty.

Maintenance

To keep your bronze sculpture always shining, clean it regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the finish. Use only wax if necessary to restore shine.
